Bad Max, Les Humanoïdes associés, 1983

Max isn’t a pseudonym, but his real name, which he inherited from his Catalan grand-father. He was born in 1957 and grew up with the stories of Grimm, Perrault or Andersen. These tales influenced him as much as the EC comics or the fantasy and gore literature did.
He started making comics during the punk period, the golden age of graphic terrorists such as Bazooka or Elles Sont De Sortie… All sorts of extremes were possible at the time…

Panzer panik, Les Humanoïdes associés, 1985

In 1980, he met by luck Benito and Pierre Ouin, who had been editing the graphzine Le Krapô Baveux since 1977. He published his first comics in the ninth issue, with Mezzo, Ben Radis, Imagex or Liberatore (unknown at the time).

Spoty et La Lune alphane, Les Humanoïdes associés, 1987

Each Wednesday, the three pals showed their pages to the editorial staff of Métal Hurlant (comprised of Manœuvre, Chaland and Janic Dionnet) who wasn’t very receptive. But their perseverance finally bore fruit and On demande P’tit Louis by Max was published in issue #61. Two pages by Pierre Ouin followed, then two more by Benito / Max, and so on until the magazine’s fall.

Fuck, fly and bomb, Futuropolis, 1986

Les Humanoïdes Associés published three books by Max. The first one was Bad Max. This book collected all the stories that had been refused by Manœuvre for Métal Hurlant (between 1981 and 1983), but that were accepted by Dionnet in 83 to make a book ! Next, Panzer Panic was published. It is about the second world war and gathers ten short stories written by José-Louis Bocquet from the inside of a tank, well that looks like it. Spoty et la lune Alphane, Max’s favourite book, was published in 1987. Unfortunately, it didn't get any sequel.

Suck, Korea, suck, Futuropolis, 1988

Nevertheless, Les Humanos ordered him a second Spoty… He finished it but it never got released… Then Fuck, Fly and Bomb and Suck, Korea, Suck were published by Futuropolis within the collection X. These books were jointly elaborated by Max and Pierre Ouin : the resulting graphic style is more destroy than ever.

Monstrueux monstres, Albin Michel, 1991

In 1991, Max drew Monstrueux Monstres, his first children book (Albin Michel). The second one, Récit du récif, was published in 1996 by Le Seuil Jeunesse.
Max was also published in magazines such as : Viper, Charlie, Rigolo, Zoulou, Lapin, Picsou magazine, L’Écho des Savanes, Le Lynx, Pif, Strips, Frank Margerin Présente, À Suivre, Hara Kiri, Flag…

Douceur infernale vol.1, éditions du Plateau

Douceur Infernale, even though serialized in Métal Hurlant, was never published as a book by Les Humanoïdes Associés. After many years, in 1995, Les Éditions du Poteau eventually published it. In 2003, Les Éditions Humeurs released the whole book, including the old story and another one that had not been published before.
